PSIA National Academy is heading back to Snowbird, UT, April 14-20, 2012. As a PSIA certified instructor you share your excitement about skiing every day, all winter long. At PSIA National Academy you have the exclusive opportunity to ski and learn with the PSIA Alpine team, connect with fellow instructors, and experience some of the best spring skiing in the world. You will get the playtime you need to carry your excitement through the long, hot summer and the tools, new ideas, and personal coaching to get you started next winter. Full Attendee - $1,380

Includes five days with team, lift pass, five days education credit, certificate, goodie bag, six nights shared lodging, the opening night reception, five breakfasts, five lunches, two buffet dinners, and the closing night banquet.



Resident Attendee - $905

Includes five days with team, lift pass, five days education credit, certificate, goodie bag, five lunches, the opening night reception, and the closing night banquet.  This does not include lodging, breakfast or two additional dinners.  (The two additional dinners can be added on for an additional cost.)



 Full Guest - $680

Includes, six nights shared lodging, the opening night reception, five breakfasts, five lunches, two buffet, and the closing night banquet.



Resident Guest - $100

For guests staying with resident attendees who wish to attend the Opening reception and closing banquet. Does not include other meals or lodging.

The official hotel for the National Academy 2012 is the Cliff Lodge & Spa in Snowbird.  It offers 3 restaurants, two lounges, two swimming pools, four hot tubs, and ski-in ski-out accessibility.  All indoor sessions will take place at the Cliff Lodge

 

Shared Lodging is included in the Full Attendee and Full Guest registration. When you register you will be asked questions to help us pair you with your roommate. If you know who you would like to room with please specify during registration.  If you prefer a single room, you may add that option when registering for an additional $348.

Offered Daily

Select the condition you’d like to tackle each day; you can pick a different focus each day or stick with the same one for the week. Group splits for each session based initially on the following categories: Teaching and Fundamentals, Skill Development, or Ripping. Team members will then divide groups based on skiing ability, desired intensity, and skiing focus.

Alpine Video Session
Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday

Members of the National Team will film your skiing on a variety of pitches, conditions and tasks, followed by an intensive analysis session dedicated to your personal skiing improvement.



Women’s Group
Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday

Spend some quality time skiing with the female members of the PSIA National Team and others focusing on understanding specific topics related to women and skiing. This is a great chance to ski and compare notes with your counterparts.

Freestyle as a Teaching Tool
Sunday

Freestyle is no longer the “wave of the future”- it’s here and now. Learn ways to incorporate freestyle into lessons for all ages and abilities by using different freestyle skills to develop solid skiing skills.



Understanding Stance, Movement, and Balance
Monday, Wednesday

Jim Lindsay, president of BOOTech, Inc. has over 20 years experience as a specialty boot fitter and pedorthist. Aided by several team members, Jim will be presenting and demonstrating the effects of the fit of your ski boot on your skiing technique. It is strongly advised that you attend the indoor boot fitting lecture on Sunday before taking this session.



FreeRide! Teaching the FUNdamentals
Monday

Increase your freestyle skills by building a solid foundation. Dial in your own skills while learning from Dave Oliver, Alpine Team Park and Pipe Specialist what the building blocks are to rock-stardom. You’ll get individual feedback and put PSIA’s freestyle ATML method to use.



Indoor and On-Snow Demo
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
PSIA-AASI Official Suppliers will be on hand for an indoor demo Tuesday night, followed by two days of on-snow demos on the Snowbird Tram deck Wednesday and Thursday. This is a great opportunity to try something new and get a sneak peak at some of next year’s gear.


FreeRide! Using the Whole Mountain
Wednesday

Freestyle is a reality. But, before there were manmade mounds of snow and boxes and rails to play on, skiers used what the mountain offered. Check out the Snowbird you might not normally see with Alpine team member Dave Oliver and learn to play on an all-natural terrain park.



Multi-Week Tactics
Thursday

Multi-week programs are a mainstay of ski schools across the country. Come to this session to learn tactics for how to plan out your multi-week lessons. Learn how to build a great series of lessons that will have them ready to come back the next season!



Race Training and Tactics
Tuesday – Full Day

Ski with a top level race coach and team members as they lead you through proven tactics and techniques to make you faster on the course.



Race Focus – Drills for Skills
Tuesday – Full Day

Olympic skiers all started somewhere. Learn proven drills and tactics to developing competition skills with Ron Kipp, Alpine Sport Education Manager for the USSA.





Indoor Sessions

Daily afternoon indoor electives will also be offered as an alternative to being on-snow. Please note: There will be no indoor sessions on Tuesday.

 

Boot Alignment Lecture
Sunday

Change the way you ski by changing the way you stand. Jim Lindsay, boot fitter extraordinaire and president of BOOTech, Inc., has over 20 years experience as a specialty boot fitter and pedorthist. Jim will talk about the effect the fit of your ski boot has on your skiing. It is strongly advised that you attend this lecture before taking the on-snow session “Understanding Stance, Movement, and Balance.”



Movement Analysis with a Team Member
Monday

Are you looking to connect the dots from simple observation to detailed description to a solid prescription for change? This session will help you further develop your understanding of what you see so that you can identify the root cause and effect relationships and create a personalized plan of action for every skier.



Kids Movement Analysis
Wednesday

Learn systematic observation strategies for assessing children’s movements that will help you clearly describe movement related and process related problems and isolate root causes. The session leaders will help you develop creative vantage-points and tactics for efficient movement assessment.



Movement Matrix – Tools and Tips
Thursday

Come to this session to get the inside line on how to put The Movement Matrix to work for you. Alpine team members will show you where to find what you are looking for and ways to get the most out of this powerful learning tool.
