Describe a teaching or learning experience that sticks out in your mind.
A teaching experience that sticks out in my mind is from a random first time group lesson I taught last season. In this lesson there was a teenage girl who was terribly nervous about learning to snowboard. As everyone experiences as an instructor, a split in level developed in the group. When we strapped in two feet and started learning to traverse it was clear that this girl was going to need a bit of extra attention to keep up with the group and to keep the nerves down. While the rest of the group practiced making their way across the trail, I attempted to hold this girls hands to help her get the hang of it, but it was not working at all. So we got creative. We played around with walking ourselves across the trail, I attempted to hold this girls hands to help her get the hang of it. but it was not working at all. So, we got creative. We played around with walking ourselves across the hill using our hands, kind of like a crab walk. Although this is not the preferred method of travel on our snowboard, it gave her the tools she needed to feel safe. She was able to keep up with the group which helped with her self esteem and for the first time on her snowboard, have fun! After two traverses of crab walking she was slowly able to stand on her heel edge and little by little masted the traverse. This lesson sticks out to me because as instructors we have the ability to get creative, think outside the box and even try some things a little unorthodox from time time.

My top teaching experience is the simple experience that we have everyday with our guests when we show them opportunities to challenge and evolve ones personal skills allowing them to achieve their goals. One of the best learning experiences would have to be the times I have went to Interski and were able to learn from associates from all over the world.

In 2002 I was on a snowboard magazine review of Steamboat and we were set up with a private guide who would later become a PSIA-AASI Snowboard Team Member. It was a strong group of riders, and none of us were looking for instruction. However, over the course of 4 days, everyone in the group came away a better rider - all without instruction or special coaching. this learn through play format left me wanting to learn how to do that, and led me into the career of a lifetime!

Describe a teaching or learning experience that sticks out in your mind.
I learned early in may teaching career that no two lessons will ever be the same. When I learned how to present information to the individual learner in a group lesson setting it improved my teaching seccess. The connections I made with students created more satisfaction for them and myself.
