Prerequsites
  • 16+ years old
  • Member of PSIA-AASI – JOIN TODAY!
  • Candidates are recommended but, not required, to have at least 20-hours of teaching experience at a snow sports school. Those without are highly recommended to attend an educational prep course.
  • Candidates with a Level 3 Certification in any discipline can skip straight to Telemark Level 2
Pathway:
  • Step 1: Register for and successfully complete the 1-day Telemark Level 1 Prep Course within in the same season that you plan to take the exam.
  • Step 2: Complete and submit 2-weeks prior to your exam the Telemark Level 1 Study Guide (free!)
  • Step 3: Register for and successfully complete the 1-day Telemark Level 1 Exam
*Exceptions to the prerequisites and pathway can only be made through petition.

Prep Course:

The purpose of the prep course is to familiarize the candidate with the content, procedures, and standards of the exam, as well as to review the specific skills required.

Prep clinics are usually scheduled three to four weeks before the exam in order to allow time for the candidate to practice and improve in areas of weak performance identified during the clinic.

Unless approved by the Chief Examiner, the prep clinic must be taken in the same season as the exam.

Review and receive professional feedback on Level 1 Telemark National Teaching Standards including technical skills, teaching topics, fundamental maneuvers, & applied terrain/maneuvers and tasks.

  • Overview of the skills and knowledge required for level 1 exams, including materials and process updates.
  • On-hill teaching presentations, teaching methodology, and movement analysis with personal feedback
  • Ins and outs of demos and tasks. What they are and how to perform them.
  • Personal and specific feedback on your performance in relation to the National Standards.

Exam:

Telemark exams are designed to be a fun learning experience as well as an assessment process. Candidates will not only be assessed, they will be taught, coached, and motivated in the areas of skiing, teaching and technical understanding.

Feedback will be continuously given throughout the day, and candidates will be scored on their best performances. By the end of the exam, candidates will know how they measure up to the national standards.
