SnowPro Update: Okemo Mountain School + 2 New Chairs

Ludlow, Vermont (PSIA-AASI) - The Okemo Mountain School (OMS) Board of Directors announced that Mariel Meringolo has been hired to fill the interim head of school position for the upcoming winter term. She has been a member of the OMS staff since 2004 and she has served in a number of different capacities: mathematics department head, development coordinator, special programs coordinator and admissions assistant.

The 50/50 Blog: The Canon of Snowsports

For some strange reason, skiing and snowboarding are sports that have not been blessed with a wealth of great books. Go to any bookstore, and while the sports section is filled with shelves of climbing, surfing, baseball, football, and golf how-to’s and histories, the snowsports section is often so thin it might as well be titled, Big Game Hunting for Vegetarians, or Keith Richards’ Top Ten Workouts.

SnowPro Update: Bobby Murphy, NSAA Enviro & Heated Chairs

PSIA-AASI’s own Bobby Murphy has been named the new director of the Vail Snowsports School, replacing Pete Sonntag who has moved to Heavenly as VP and general manager. Bobby brings more than 20 years of ski industry experience to Vail, and as a current, two-term member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) Alpine Team, is recognized as one of the most accomplished snowsports professionals in the country.

The 50/50 Blog: Filling the Hall of Fame

I was talking to Curt Chase yesterday, one of the founders of PSIA-AASI, and I asked him who he thought should be part of ski instruction’s “second generation” of US Ski Hall of Fame nominees, seeing as all of the original seven were already in.
