Board of Directors Meeting

What did you do this weekend? Us . . . well, the PSIA-AASI Board of Directors convened in Golden, Colorado, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for its summer meeting. Twice a year the American Snowsports Education Association and American Snowsports Education Association Education Foundation boards, which govern PSIA-AASI, meet to conduct your association’s business. Comprised of elected members from each division, the board represents the diverse interests of snowsports instructors from all over the country.

Below are some highlights from the weekend. However, more was accomplished than can possibly be included in one blog post, so over the course of the next several weeks we’ll be sharing in-depth reports from each department, giving you a closer look at how your association functions.

Check back every THURSDAY for more. Until then, here’s what went down last weekend . . .

Call to order – think back to high school civics class and parliamentary procedure – that’s how we roll at ASEA. What followed includes:

• Board reports from Ray Allard (president), Eric Sheckleton (executive VP), Craig Albright (operations VP), John Peppler (communications VP), and Skip Dickel (on behalf of the Presidents Council).
• Executive director report from Mark Dorsey and staff reports from marketing, education, communications, and information services.
• Task force presentations, including certification unity, the new association management system, children’s education, member recruitment, and accreditation. (The task force committees continue to thoughtfully work through the pros and cons at the heart of these issues to make resolutions that will benefit the membership.)
• Old business, including bylaw revisions, lifetime membership nominations, and other issues revolving around recognitioJerry_Warren.JPGn of achievement within the organization.
• New business, including consideration of new proposals and approval of the FY10 budget.
• Discussion of future meetings, including next year’s National Academy, Rider Rally, and Adaptive Academy, as well as long-range events such as Interski and the 50th Anniversary of the association in 2011, and the 2012 Teams Selection.

Finally, at the conclusion of the meeting, long-time board member and PSIA-AASI icon Jerry Warren (pictured here with PSIA-AASI President Ray Allard) was recognized for nine years of service on the board. Check out the commemorative clock!

(Warren was also the recipient of the prestigious PSIA-AASI Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received during the PSIA National Academy at Snowbird, Utah, along with his 40-year pin commemorating 40 years of membership in the association.)

But we’re not adjourned yet – check back next Thursday for the first post in a series highlighting the PSIA-AASI departments and what each is doing to enhance the value of your membership.
