Communications Update
As promised, here’s the fourth blog post on what your national association is up to as it moves beyond the recent BOD meeting and into the upcoming snowsports season.
For its part, the communications department is looking to the future by taking a page from the playbook of mankind’s earliest civilizations. Yes, we’re in “hunting and gathering” mode, compiling the material that will provide sustenance for the PSIA-AASI tribe through the coming winter and beyond.
Seeking food for thought that will help inform and engage all you PSIA-AASI members in your quest for professional development, the communications department is teaming with talented authors and discerning technical reviewers on content for upcoming issues of 32 Degrees: The Journal of Professional Snowsports Instruction. By all accounts the first season of the new publication—which replaced The Professional Skier and The Pro Rider—was a success. With the board’s blessing, we’re heading into the 2009–10 season with a full head of steam. We do have to admit that we’re really glad to have computers and keyboards, because we’d go through a lot of rock chisels getting a full season’s content onto a cave wall.
Look for a fall issue that explores all sorts of equipment options, a winter issue that examines terrain and conditions, and a spring issue that looks at specific student populations. Of course, each issue will also be jam-packed with engaging glimpses into the snowsports industry and a broad range of instructional content for teachers of every stripe. Plans are also in the works to make the website ever more robust, with more archives, more educational content, and more—as they say in techy publishing circles—cross-pollination between print publications and the web.
And we can’t have you cruising into the 2009–10 snowsports season without great educational resources, versatile apparel, and the other items that make lessons and life on the slopes infinitely easier. That’s right, we’re also well into production on the 2009–10 Accessories Catalog, so start collecting coins from under the seat cushion and dreaming of Movement Matrix magic, new duds, stylin’ specs, and logo’d keychains to come!
There’s more post-board-meeting blogging to come, so check back July 9th!
