Education Update

The ASEA BOD meeting was a very positive experience, with the group engaging in active discussion and weighing in with different viewpoints before reaching decisions. Not every proposal received funding for the coming fiscal year, but, in principle, each project will stay on the radar screen.

Starting in July you will see the launch of several initiatives, each of which will continue to “raise the bar” on our educational programs and products.

Some of the highlights:
    •     The board approved researching and integrating a Quality Assurance initiative into our educational programs, products, and processes. As we develop and implement this qualityEd_Update_Blog.jpg assurance and best practices program, look for positive changes as we tie our web content, print, and video products together and evaluate our certification and credentialing programs.
    •     The entire Movement Matrix will be getting functionality and content upgrades to provide an even better experience. These upgrades will include improvements to the video player, filter structure, and playlist features as well as updated and expanded content.
    •     National standards are being updated for Alpine, Snowboard, and Adaptive. These standards are being developed with input from all divisions and will help you develop your training plan for certification.
    •     Academy 2010 is only 10 months away and we are already starting to plan. Look for the curriculum topics to be posted in early July, with the “Kids Track” back and even better than last year! Start planning now!
    •     Interski 2011 is starting to come together. This international event provides a chance for PSIA-AASI to showcase American snowsports education to the rest of the world. You will have a chance to see what the teams are working on as they hit the road over the next few years.
    •     The PSIA 50th anniversary is coming up in 2011. We won’t be gathering just anywhere so stay tuned as we choose our mountain. This will be a party you won’t want to miss!

There’s a lot more planned for the coming year. We’ll keep you posted with updates as more projects are launched. Be sure to check back next week for more information from the board meeting.
