About Scott

This is Scott’s second term on the AASI Snowboard Team. He started snowboarding 20 years ago in Minnesota and has been a member of AASI since 1996. He was instrumental in developing the freestyle accreditation program in AASI’s Rocky Mountain Division, where he is also a certification examiner. For 10 years, Scott enjoyed back-to-back seasons, splitting time between Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Queenstown, New Zealand. In New Zealand, Scott helped found the Instructor Training Company, an 11-week program for people who want to become snowboard instructors. Scott now lives full time in Steamboat with his wife and two children, where he is the snowboard school technical director and terrain park manager for Steamboat Ski Resort. Scott likes to swap tales with fellow Steamboat resident and 75-year-old Snurfer pioneer Sherm Poppen, who tries to match his number of years to his number of days on snow each season.

Vital Stats

Hometown: Steamboat Springs, CO

Resort: Steamboat, CO

Sponsors: Burton, Smith, Reusch

Favorite run: An early morning powder run, any location steep enough to go!

Favorite snowboard destination
: I have been up to Baldface a few times now and it is pretty amazing. Going to the Southern Hemisphere is also a good time. Anyone out there who wants to go on a trip like this, just let me know! For real.

Favorite sports team: Colorado Avalanche

Après style: Cold beers, good friends, and even better stories from the day.

Playlist:
Nirvana, Sabbath, Pixies, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Zepplin, System of a Down, Beastie Boys, Swollen Members, Tool, A Tribe Called Quest

Rides on: X/8 157 w/ est triads or fixx 155 w/ est triads

Just read:
Freestyle notebook . . . not really a book, but it was the last thing I read.

Average days on snow each season:
From 1998 to 2005, I was getting close to 300 a year. Now that I’m not going to New Zealand, I’m guessing somewhere between 160 and 200.

Top three off-snow activities:
1) Being with my family
2) Mountain biking
3) Fishing

I would like to meet . . . Mother Nature and work on scheduling snowstorms, depths, and locations.

The best thing about being on the AASI Snowboard Team: Meeting people and having a say in the direction our organization is going or needs to go. Being involved is what keeps me coming back for more.
