Hey all,

I proposed a weeklong winter break youth freestyle camp to my resort for ages 12-20.  My resort is backing the idea 100% and we’re moving forward with the logistics planning and finalizing.  Before even proposing my idea, I thought long and hard about the details.  I think that I have all of the obvious corners covered so far.  The reason for this post is simply seeking out anyone who has run a camp like this or played a role in one, in hopes that from your experiences, to help me find if there are any unforseen points of interest that you wish that you had thought about.  Or if there are any bits of advice on how to do any certain aspects more effectively.  I am simply trying to avoid the “I wish I would have thought of that” type of a situation.  I would appreciate any and all feedback and information that you could supply.  This is the first winter for this event at my resort, and I am hoping that it can become an annual camp.  Thanks for reading and for any input.

I think stratton has a christmas camp….but its under one of the Pro’s names and others also guest appear (Kelly Clark) etc…if you could get some name to at least do a group ride and demo it would add to the interest…bragging rights back at school after the holidays.

Getting enough students to have appropriate classes is tough. A 20 year old dude won’t want to be hanging out with 12 year old girls.

Make sure the kids know how to ride. We say they have to “charge blue runs” but always get a sideslipper stuck on his heels.

If you can, get a beginner box your crew can hike and session away from the park crowd and out of the “flow” line.

We have also had good luck with a loose class structure where students can go ride with the coach doing rails, or session the pipe with the pipe guy etc… A coach can work with different abilities on the same feature in most instances.

Have fun with your program and don’t be bummed if there aren’t many students at first. After all, how many freestyle lessons did you guys take learning to ride?
