Does anyone have any tips or tricks for teaching corked spins? Like any motion that is coached you can say just do “a” to get result “b” but thats the easy way out. What kind of things do you do to really help your athletes get there head down?

I’ll start off, I have them try to look at the tail of their snowboard or skis. (also can anyone think of how using “try to touch your shoulder to the tip or tail” would be incorrect or teach an inefficient movement?

Rodeos aren’t corks but I feel like this information applies. Just worked out rodeo 5s last weekend with the help of another instructor here at Jay Peak and I figured I’d post some of the stuff I’m throwing around to see if anyone else has a different way of doing things/takes on these ideas; if they’re completely nuts or make a little sense any input is cool.

1. Generating the spin along the vertical axis (i.e. creating the flip) - I was surprised as how little effort is necessary to put my feet over my head. Honestly it feels more like I’m sitting back and almost just laying down while spinning. My question is this; I feel as though that I can flip more and get my head almost completely underneath my feet my throwing my hips upwards towards my shoulders, is this motion and ranging the intensity going to be what creates the flipping/rode motion? Will throwing the hips up only slightly just create a cork? Is it the same for spinning the backside rodeo in terms of hip movement? To create a misty flip would I want to almost throw my shoulders and upper body down towards my hips; tucking my legs back?

2. Generating the spin along the horizontal axis; creating the 540; 720…900? I feel as though this level of rotation is generated by the carve shape; but i don’t feel that the carve shape should have to changed in order to generate more spin (changing carve shape can be used for corking and style but thats another aspect beyond technical execution that I would like to discuss) but rather the amount of torsion and explosive pre-loading that i can create with my core/shoulder movement/swing. When moving past 540 (currently for the 540 I a small to almost unnoticeable amount of prespin) will I need to throw my shoulders/core faster in the intended spin direction to generate the additional spin? Is this the most efficient manner? Can the rewind trick be used to get used to this shoulder generated spin?

Again; any thoughts/tricks/tips you have on rodeas/mistys/doubles would be greatly appreciated. Almost any tips on teaching mental zone appreciated.
