Thanksgiving Snow, Cross Country Academy, Mikaela Wins + New Videos

Happy Thanksgiving week! Here’s to giving thanks for family, friends, and early area openings. Colorado is off to a good start, Vermont is reporting the deepest snowfall in the past five seasons (which means several areas will start spinning the lifts this week), all of New York’s state-owned areas are operating, and OpenSnow.com reports that, “a potentially significant storm could bring double-digit snowfall through the central-western U.S., from California and Oregon through Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado” this weekend.

Cross Country Academy Kicks Off the Snow Pro Season

PSIA Cross Country Academy officially kicks off the snow pro national event season this Sunday. Cross Country Academy 2018 features three days of formal indoor and on-snow training that shares the best ideas, topics and technique to get instructors get on track and trail the 2018-19 season.


PSIA Cross Country Team Coach David Lawrence and teammates Emily Lovett and Greg Rhodes will lead clinics in classic and skate ski technique improvement, teaching drills, progressions, and offer updates on the latest news and projects the team is working on.

 

Mikaela Shiffrin Wins Opening Slalom, 3rd Reindeer in Finland

The U.S. Ski Team reports that Mikaela Shiffrin opened her quest for her sixth career FIS Ski World Cup slalom crystal globe with another dominating victory in the season-opening slalom under the lights in Levi, Finland, on Saturday.

“I felt good; I was even surprised at how good the course felt with the warm conditions,” said Shiffrin, who now has 44 career World Cup victories, including three slalom wins in Levi, which includes a live reindeer as part of the prize package each season!
