The holidays are here! Which means that Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month (LSSM) is right around the corner.
LSSM Executive Director Mary Jo Tarallo wants to make sure that snowsports schools across the country -- and all professional instructors -- take advantage of this annual event to introduce first-timers to the sport, and to help grow ski and snowboard participation.
“Whether you’re already hosting an event and want help publicizing it, are offering incentives for rental gear and/or discounted lessons, or want to find out more about how your school can participate, we have the resources to help,” said Tarallo.
Find out more about the role you and your school can play in the new First Chair Podcast below, and also listen to PSIA Alpine Team member Matt Boyd discuss two key elements of The Learning Connection. You can also listen to all the PSIA-AASI First Chair Podcasts here:
Participate in Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month
PSIA Alpine Team member Heidi Ettlinger and LSSM’s Mary Jo Tarallo discuss Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, which takes place every January; and Learn to Ski and Snowboard Day, which takes place on January 11. Encourage your school to participate in the entire the month, the day, or both by planning to attract new customers. If your area’s ski and ride school offers January Learn to Ski and Snowboard specials, be sure to submit your offers using this form right now. Then, check out these resources for resorts/instructors (www.ski-snowboard.org) and for consumers (www.learntoskiandsnowboard.org).
Blending People and Teaching Skills with Matt Boyd
During Team Training 2018 in Breckenridge, Colorado, PSIA Alpine Team member Matt Boyd shared how the PSIA-AASI Team is focusing on The Learning Connection, fundamentals, and good teaching. He talks about two of three tenants of The Learning Connection Model -- teaching skills and people skills -- and why these two skill areas are the same across all disciplines.
