Mikaela First to Win 15 World Cups in One Season
Mikaela Shiffrin made history on Saturday in Špindlerův Mlýn, Czech Republic when she earned her 15th FIS Ski World Cup victory of the season, and her career 58th win.
On a snowy first run, Shiffrin came out of the gate charging, and took a lead by nearly four tenths over Switzerland's Wendy Holdener. After taking third place in Friday's giant slalom, Shiffrin came to charge Saturday, proving that she is the best in the world. With the slalom and overall titles already in the bag, Shiffrin was skiing free of expectations and pressure. Read the entire U.S. Ski and Snowboard report.
With Deep Snow, U.S. Areas Forecast Longer Season
California’s Mammoth Mountain received so much snow before Valentine’s Day, that the area announced it would be open until July 4, and maybe even longer. Squaw Valley followed suit last week, with news that the area will stay open until July 7, after already receiving 50 feet of snow this season.
And now, Colorado areas are beginning to join the fun. Southern Colorado’s Monarch Mountain sent an e-mail to say the area will stay open until April 21, at least two weekends later than originally planned. Who’s next? Stay tuned.
