CS1 E-Learning, How to Raise a Skier, College Credits + New Hall of Fame Class

The PSIA-AASI Children’s Specialist 1 Workbook is being replaced as an e-learning course. You’ll need to take this online course before you take the on-snow portion for the Children’s Specialist 1. The new e-course will launch this October.

How to Raise a Skier

PSIA-AASI teamed up with SKI Magazine to create a new e-learning course for parents on How to Raise a Skier, taught by Aleks and Brian Smith (who are also parents). This course is essential for anyone who wants to get their kids to become lifelong snowsports enthusiasts.

Earn a Minor in Ski Instruction

North Carolina’s Lees-McRae College and nearby Beech Mountain Resort will offer a new Ski Industry Business and Instruction minor as part of the Outdoor Recreation Management program within the School of Business and Management at the Banner Elk, NC-based college, according to DCSki.com.

“The program incorporates an outdoor recreation management foundation with professional business practices and industry certifications,” Katie Wall, assistant professor and program coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation Management program, told the website.

Sherman Poppen, Greg Stump Headline 2019 Hall of Fame Class

Sherman Poppen, whose invention of the ‘Snurfer’ ushered in the sport of snowboarding, and ski and snowboard movie maven Greg Stump, were announced as two of the newest members of the Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.

Other 2019 inductees include freestyle skier Scott Brooksbank, who won five world titles, Kit DesLauriers, the first person to climb and ski from the summit of the highest peak on all seven continents, Nordic skiers Johnny Spillane, who won three silver medals at the 2010 Olympics, trail map artist James Niehues, and Benjamin Finley and Arthur Clay, whose creation of the National Brotherhood of Skiers introduced tens of thousands of new participants to skiing and snowboarding.
