Course Description (2024 Women's Virtual Summit - Applying Adaptive Tools and Techniques in All Your Lessons ):
Whether you are teaching children or adults, or a group or private lesson, you have likely needed to tailor information and skills to your guests. Adaptive tools and techniques are great resources to deepen your knowledge about the way guests move, think, and feel throughout any lesson, not just adaptive lessons! In this session, you will discover how different body types, common mobility challenges, and the ways guests may think or feel throughout a lesson can be addressed through an adaptive lens to create a successful learning environment.
Learning Outcomes:
• Illustrate how the teaching and people skills used in adaptive instruction can be used in all lessons regardless of discipline.
• Show how knowledge of people and teaching fundamentals can be applied to various scenarios
• Explain various techniques and tactics to work with different body types, mobility challenges, emotions, and cognitive abilities
This session is led by Christina Bruno. Christina is a PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Team member who lives in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In addition to instructing full time on the mountain, she is a PSIA-AASI Rocky Mountain and Intermountain adaptive examiner. When she is not leading adaptive training, exams, or lessons, you can find her leading women's only ski and snowboard camps in Japan and other countries. During the summer she works as an adventure travel guide for a female only adventure travel company.
Course Description (2024 Women's Virtual Summit - Tips for Securing and Effectively Working with High-Level Clients ):
In this session, you will learn how to secure and give lessons to higher-ability-level clients. Since female instructors typically end up with many clients who are children or beginners, the speaker will provide guidance on how to counteract that. She will also focus on how female coaches and instructors should approach high-ability male clients and how to troubleshoot certain situations to secure clients' trust and confidence.
Learning Outcomes:
• Explain how female instructors can procure high-ability clients
• Outline tips for working effectively with high-ability clients
• Demonstrate how to troubleshoot issues to secure clients' trust and confidence
This session will be led by Emily Lovett, PSIA National Cross Country Team Coach.
Course Description (2024 Women's Virtual Summit - Discovering Diverse Career Pathways in Snowsports):
In this session, you will learn about different opportunities in the snowsports industry. Panelists will share the path they took, the people who helped them along the way, and the skill sets they learned to succeed in their current position. Each panelist will speak for 30 minutes, including a Q&A session.
Learning Outcomes:
• Outline opportunities in the snowsports industry
• Show the skill sets needed to succeed in the industry
• Demonstrate through a Q&A session how each instructor's journey was unique
This session will be led by:
Katie Brinton - Eastern Alpine Examiner and a senior editor for SAM
Amanda Barnhart - Ski Patrol Director at Laurel Mountain Ski Resort, PA
Lynnea Anderson - Deputy Director of PSIA-AASI West
Course Description (2024 Women's Virtual Summit - Boot Fitting Done Right):
In this session, you will learn why it's important to see a boot fitter to identify the right boots from the start, for yourself and your clients. In addition, you will receive technical recommendations. Each discipline will be covered, and there will be opportunities for Q&A throughout the session.
Learning Outcomes:
• Explain the importance of identifying the right boot for your self and your clients
•Outline technical recommendations when choosing the right boot
•Demonstrate the difference good boots can make for each discipline
This session will be led by Amanda Brotman, the boot fitting extraordinaire from Steamboat. She works at Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare.
