About Common Ground Outdoor Adventures:

Common Ground Outdoor Adventures (CGOA) is one of the largest adaptive recreation organizations in Northern Utah. Each year, CGOA serves more than 3,200 youths and adults with disabilities in Northern Utah, and the surrounding areaCGOA provides programming in a variety of outdoor recreation including biking, camping, river rafting, skiing, water sports, and various other activities to individuals with cognitive, physical or emotional disabilities. Year round programming is headquartered in Logan, Utah with an adaptive center located slope-side at Beaver Mountain Ski Area

Position Overview:

Teach advanced level adaptive skiing and/or snowboarding to individuals with disabilities December-March 2024 at Beaver Mountain (training starting in December). Support all aspects of programming including equipment preparation, equipment fitting, stand ski instruction, sit ski instruction, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs student assessments and determines adaptive equipment and modifications.
  • Selects appropriate teaching system and sets goals and plans lesson according to therapeutic recreation concepts.
  • Instructs individual or group lessons using appropriate teaching progressions and exercises.
  • Documents student progress and maintains accurate records and makes recommendations for future lessons.
  • Assists with coordination and operation of agency programs.
  • Follows consistently safety procedures and utilizes appropriate safety equipment.
  • Creates and maintains a friendly, helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests and other employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • 1+ years of job-specific work experience
  • Minimum Level 6 skiing ability.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and provide concise, effective feedback
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently.
  • Highly motivated.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Strong ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of risk management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current PSIA/AASI Certification in any of the following areas: Alpine, Adaptive (DD, Blind, 3 Track, 4 Track, Mono ski, or Bi ski), Snowboard, Nordic.
  • Knowledge of a variety of disabilities.
  • Experience of teaching levels 1-7 alpine skiing or snowboarding.
  • Level 7 skiing ability.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work a majority of the time outside in varying conditions including uneven and slick terrain, and unpredictable winter weather and situations. Must be physically able to assist participants with ski or adaptive equipment, position adjustments, transfers and movement during activities.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers and phones or mobile devices.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to interact with guests, participants and staff on a daily basis.
  • Able to successfully manage multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced and often times crowded and noisy environment.
  • Able to utilize surface and aerial lifts.

Requirements:

∙  Must complete a background check.

∙  Must have or acquire a current CPR / First Aid Certification

∙  Must be flexible and willing to work various days

∙  Prefer 21 years or older (age flexible on a case by case basis)

∙  Must possess a valid driver’s license

Additional Opportunity: Driver

In addition to instructing, CGOA is seeking individuals willing to drive company vehicles to assist in the transportation of participants. Drivers will be responsible for driving participants to and from Beaver Mountain Adaptive Center, including pickups and drop-offs from and to individuals’ homes and/or CGOA office, before and after their lessons.

 

Additional Opportunity Requirements:

∙  Must submit a Driving Record.

∙  Ability to drive safely in both ideal and adverse weather conditions, including in Logan Canyon.

∙  Must be willing and able to complete the UDOT Commercial Driver medical exam (cost covered by CGOA).

Salary:

Hourly wage dependent on experience
