Job Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible to lead the overall strategic, operational management and fundraising activities for the AbilityPLUS organization.  The Executive Director works closely with board members, staff, and volunteers to ensure quality experiences for all participants in alignment with the AbilityPLUS mission

Essential Functions

Executive Management

  • Provide leadership and direction for the day-to-day operation of the organization
  • Direct and implement grant writing to maximize revenue to endure sustainability of the organization
  • Direct fundraising efforts to grow AbilityPLUS’s annual revenue
  • Apply strong financial management skills to develop and deliver planned revenue and expense results
  • Develop and present proposed annual budget to the Board of Directors
  • Adhere to annual budget, managing expenses as well as meeting revenue projections according to the budget and practices as approved by the Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with the program staff and outside organizations to effectively market AbilityPLUS’s programs to people with disabilities
  • Develop close working relationships with a broad and diverse group of key stakeholders including the Board of Directors, program participants, volunteers, staff, host sports venues, sponsors, and donors
  • Ensure that AbilityPLUS insurance covers all programs and or off-site activities
  • Articulate and implement the AbilityPLUS mission as the visible, passionate, and energetic public face of the organization
  • Ensure that AbilityPLUS operates according to “best practices” in the field of nonprofit and adaptive teaching and safety practices
  • Foster a positive and fun culture that provides an open, inviting, and safe environment for AbilityPLUS participants, staff, and volunteers to learn and grow together
  • Ensure that AbilityPLUS has a talented and motivated staff that operates as a high-performance team
  • Regularly communicate to the Board of Directors program information including, but not limited to expenses, income, donations, special event wrap-up notes, and other pertinent information
  • Recruit, train, and supervise support staff, ensuring administrative and organizational needs are met

Program Management

  • Create and implement programming following industry best practices
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers
  • Educate and ensure adherence to guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Professionally interface with students, parents, and caregivers
  • Oversee the student evaluation process to ensure goals and needs are met
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment, tools, and apparel inventory based upon year of purchase and function, and quality
  • Procure secure storage for AbilityPLUS equipment when not in use
  • Determine purchase needs based on student requirements, current inventory, and budget
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate and updated records on all students and volunteers
  • Professionally and timely respond to all constituents including participants, volunteers, staff, etc.
  • Ensure that lesson documentation complies with all policy and procedures of the AbilityPLUS organization and associated partner organizations, including, but not limited to; Move United, Attitash Mountain and Wildcat Mountain, ESSC, etc.
  • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly statistical reports based on lessons, revenue, and costs generated by each program and submit them timely to the Board of Directors
  • Compile programming data associated with any reporting requirements for grants applied for and/or awarded.

Organizational

  • Fully support and model the mission, vision, values, and philosophy of Move United
  • Adhere to all policies, systems, safety requirements, and procedures of Move United
  • Present oneself in a professional manner with current and potential community contacts
  • Engage in regular, respectful communication with one’s supervisor(s)
  • Be professional and respectful of the organization to all staff, volunteers, participants, and donors
  • Participate in AbilityPLUS board meetings as requested
  • Interface with resort management on program operation
  • Provide expertise in disability awareness to the host resort(s) and public
  • Create and maintain relationships with other adaptive sports program directors, affiliates, DSUSA, PSIA, Paralympics USA, Special Olympics, etc.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge, education, and certification as an adaptive sports expert
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field
  • Licensed or certified Recreational Therapist
  • 2+ years’ experience in adaptive sports
  • 2+ years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • 2+ years’ experience in non-profit program management
  • Proficiency in Excel; Word; Smartsheet; social media platforms; Constant Contact

Abilities Required

  • Much of the work is outdoors, which means exposure to cold in the winter and heat in summer. Duties may require the employee to be outside during adverse weather. The duties of the position may involve standing for most of a work period
