Gore Mountain Snow Sports School Director

The Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) is seeking a proven leader in the ski and ride industry to become its Snow Sports School Director for Gore Mountain. The Snow Sports School Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Snow Sports School which includes developing and supervising the skiing and riding instruction programs for guests of Gore Mountain, with an emphasis on safety, learning, and generating revenue. They are also responsible for planning and promoting program offerings, scheduling personnel, communicating schedules, coordinating training, supervising, and directing snow sports staff, and following up on assignments provided. The Snow Sports School Director will also coordinate and conduct recreational events as requested. The Snow Sports Director will report directly to the General Manager and works closely with the Business Manager.

Gore Mountain, located in the southern Adirondacks, is a premier ski and ride resort with 2,537 feet of vertical drop. As New York State’s largest ski and ride center, Gore offers seven distinct mountain areas where guests enjoy 14 lifts, 108 trails, and a Nordic Center. Coming improvements include the North Creek Ski Bowl Lodge, a Zip Coaster, and the new Hudson Chair Quad. The 18,300-square-foot lodge will be a full-service hub for year-round activities, offering a restaurant and two levels of patios with slope-side views. The new lift is planned to be available for the 2024-25 ski and ride season.

The Snow Sports Director works primarily at Gore Mountain; however, occasional travel to other Olympic Authority venues and/or industry events may be required.  Daily activities may include standing or being seated for extended periods, skiing and/or riding, walking on mountainous grades, climbing ladders, and exposure to cold winter conditions and/or hot summer conditions. Work outside the normal workday will be required as is necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and/or meet critical deadlines. Weekend and holiday work will also be required.

Essential Duties (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Manage all aspects of the Snow Sports School team member experience including but not limited to hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, appreciation/recognition, and offboarding of team members. Assure accurate and timely reporting of company payroll processes, as well as Workers Comp reporting.
  • Determine and execute planning and operation of Snow Sports School pricing and programming to maximize market trends and expectations. Work with the Business Manager to determine and adjust ongoing Snow Sports Schools sales capacities.
  • Develop policies and programs to promote Gore Mountain’s Snow Sports School and ensure the Snow Sports School’s profitability.
  • Oversee and guide the instructor training/certification programs to assure adherence to the American Teaching System and guidelines as presented by PSIA.

Minimum Requirements:  Must be a minimum level 2 PSIA certified instructor with at least 5 years’ experience managing staff and have a strong understanding of current ski industry/teaching trends.  Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and basic accounting are also required.

Other Considerations: Snow sports supervisory experience at a medium to large ski resort preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:  This position is classified as a Grade 17 on the Olympic Authority’s Management Confidential Salary Schedule which has a minimum salary of $53,257 and a maximum salary of $85,211 per year. Final offer will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
