Ski and Snowboard School Manager

Purpose of the position:

Ski and Ride School Manager oversees and is responsible for the overall guest and employee experience at the Ski and Ride School (SRS) at The Arizona Snowbowl.   Participate in the selection and employment process: hiring, monitoring, disciplining and evaluating. Provide safe, professional, competent and fun instruction skiing and/or snowboarding at The Arizona Snowbowl. Teach skills and techniques in a clear concise manner per the department’s policies and progressions.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and Develop our Ski and Snowboard School staff and monitor the quality of our overall Ski and Ride School experience to ensure exceptional guest experience, alignment with our resort and company goals, financial success, and the development of our future products and programs.
  • Promote the Snowbowl Culture through example by providing great customer service, challenging yourself and others to be better, and being there for the team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the SRS team in hiring efforts, professional development of all employees and direct oversight of SRS adult & children’s programs.
  • Provide feedback and connect employees with appropriate training, growth and leadership opportunities.
  • Hold a high standard of operation and guest service while monitoring quality of overall SRS products to ensure exceptional guest experience, alignment with Resort and Company goals, financial success, the development of future products/programs.
  • Financial management of all operations, including budget and product development.
  • Work with Sr. Managers across departments in a positive manner to support and achieve quality, financial, and safety targets.
  • Provide guidance for training to create and implement a plan and monitor the quality of training.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to ensure staff training matches the intended outcomes and program coordination is smooth with all operating groups.
  • Stay current on guest and employee health and safety regulations, including MSDS standards, universal precautions, child abuse guidelines, temporary background checks, emergency evacuation and lightning procedures.
  • Know and model the school teaching system and guest service guidelines and be prepared to lead clinics and teach the public when necessary.
  • Actively seek information about industry trends, competitions, and events, and remain involved with professional organizations including ISIA, PSIA-AASI.
  • Promote and emphasize safety in all classes.
  • Is comfortable to challenge established policies and procedures, but once established, is supportive of those rules.

Job Requirements:

  • Maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance.
  • Wear assigned uniform jacket with solid black snow pants. Uniform must be clean with accessories appropriate for ski and snowboard professionals.
  • Understand and adhere to all Ski & Snowboard School policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Ski & Ride Director and co-managers to provide seamless Guest service to all Ski & Ride School customers .
  • Carry out all job related tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Understand and oversee instructor daily paperwork.
  • Effectively deal with Guest concerns and questions.
  • Possess the ability to physically and verbally communicate the tasks and skills associated with learning progressions.

  • Ability to lead a group of Guests, of any age, providing a safe and productive environment.
  • Ability to accurately and legibly fill out daily work reports.
  • Ability to deal with possible incidents arising out of lessons, file proper reports accurately and timely, and follow all the rules regarding incident reporting.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work environment, schedule changes, delays or unexpected events.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with other departments.
  • Ability to consistently arrive at work on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction, commit to work hours to reach goals, and attend all required staff meetings.

Education / Training / License(s) / Certification(s) Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • PSIA-AASI Level III – Preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • 5 years as a full-time ski/snowboard instructor or supervisor.
  • Minimum of 5 years in the outdoor recreation
  • Previous managerial experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to physically spend a full day on skis/snowboard in any type of weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
