Snowsports Instructor

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a Snowsports Instructor at Whaleback, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional instruction and creating memorable experiences for our guests. Your responsibilities will focus on delivering safe, engaging, and informative lessons, fostering a love for skiing or snowboarding, and ensuring the well-being of participants. Upper Valley Snowsports Foundation, doing business as Whaleback Mountain, is a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Enfield, NH, with a mission to maintain an affordable, accessible, and fun winter sports destination that welcomes all community members to discover the joy of Snowsports and become a lifelong snow enthusiast. “Ski it to Believe it!”

As a Snowsports Instructor at Whaleback Mountain, you shall:

  • Provide group and private lessons, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment for participants of all ages.
  • Instruct skiing or snowboarding with expertise, catering to various skill levels, including moguls, racing, or cross training.
  • Offer mountain-related information and assistance as needed, collaborating with fellow staff members for additional support.
  • Commit to continuous improvement by attending on-snow and off-snow clinics, enhancing your skills as an instructor.
  • Attend Learning Programs Department meetings as requested, working collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high teaching standards.
  • Be flexible in adapting to changing class assignments and excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Fulfill other relevant tasks or functions as requested by your manager, contributing to the overall success of Whaleback Mountain.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Possess a high level of competency in your chosen snow sport (skiing or snowboarding), with the ability to teach various disciplines.
  • Maintain a caring and sensitive attitude towards guests, ensuring their safety and enjoyment throughout the learning process.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students, providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Be flexible and adaptable when responding to changing class assignments and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

The Snowsports Instructor role involves a range of physical demands essential for success, including:

  • Ski/Snowboard Proficiency: Maintain an intermediate level of skiing or snowboarding proficiency or above.
  • Extended Standing: Be prepared to stand for extended periods during lesson sessions, ensuring students receive continuous guidance and support.
  • Lifting Capability: Possess the ability to lift beginner, adult, and child skiers/snowboarders to their feet.
  • Weather Resilience: Embrace the outdoors in all its forms by being prepared to work in all types of weather conditions.

Certifications/Prerequisites:

  • PSIA/AASI certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching in both formal and informal learning environments is a plus.
  • Previous Snowsports teaching is a plus.
