Happy 100th Birthday to Klaus Obermeyer
Everyone at PSIA-AASI would like to wish a happy 100th Birthday to U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame member Klaus Obermeyer. According to the Hall of Fame, after settling in Aspen, Colorado, the German-born Obermeyer became a ski instructor:
“Noticing that many of his students would take a few lessons and drop out, Klaus realized that the equipment was unsatisfactory. The jackets were too cold, the boots hurt their feet and the sun burned their skin and hurt their eyes. Obermeyer was paid by the lesson so when a student did not come, he did not get paid. So he turned to designing about a dozen ski industry firsts including: the quilted parka, goose down parka, dual constructed boots, high altitude suntan lotion, turtleneck sweaters, mirrored sunglasses, nylon wind shirt, and flow inner boot and ski.”
At Killington, Shiffrin Wins Again!
World Cup victory number 62 tasted pretty sweet for Mikaela Shiffrin after she put forth a commanding performance at the HomeLight Killington Cup Sunday in front of 11,000 fans. She won the first run by 1.13 seconds and extended her victory margin to a massive 2.29 seconds on a scrappy second run. With this victory, Mikaela continues onward with the strongest start she's had to a season in years.
