PSIA-AASI Launches New Teaching Snowsports Manual

Simple, Easy-to-Use Framework Helps Ski & Snowboard Instructors Go from Good to Great

Ski and snowboard instructors and snowsports schools across the country can enhance their employee’s professional development with a new resource, the Teaching Snowsports Manual, released this month by the Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI). This new manual brings to life the three components of PSIA-AASI’s Learning Connection – people skills, teaching skills, and technical skills – to provide a framework for snowsports instructors’ development. This new education resource is now available for purchase through the PSIA-AASI Accessories Catalog, or online on thesnowpros.org.

“The Teaching Snowsports Manual offers invaluable information on communication, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, effective teaching, and how people learn,” said Ellen Post Foster, former PSIA Team member, manual lead author, and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee.

PSIA-AASI director of education Dave Schuiling explains the manual shows instructors how to better connect with their students to inspire learning and create lifelong adventures through education.

“We are excited to provide this completely new, multi-discipline teaching resource,” said Rob Sogard, former PSIA Team member and coach (1996-2016) and manual lead author. “The Teaching Snowsports Manual shows readers how to use a student-centered approach to elevate the guest experience and inspire lifelong participation.”

Schuiling explains that the manual is available in both print and digital versions to provide instructors resources when, where, and how they need them to stay focused on their students’ desired outcomes.

The digital version of any given technical manual (which can be purchased as a stand-alone product or part of a bundle with the print version) helps instructors:

  • Save time by digitally bookmarking pages to return to the content later
  • Personalize their learning by adding notes and highlighting text

All of these digital resources can be viewed on a computer – or on a smartphone/tablet as part of a free Snow Pro Library app for Apple, Android, and Kindle Fire users. The digital editions of the Teaching Snowsports Manual are only available to those who have purchased that resource. For those instructors that prefer the print version of the new educational manual, they can use the QR codes and Tiny URLS within the photos to access video online.
