Course Description:
Course Name: Moguls 100
Discipline: Alpine
Time: 2 Days
Continuing Education Credits: 12
Environment: Bumps in blue terrain or easier advanced terrain
Note: Due to variations in trail difficulty designations from one resort to the next, i.e., a Blue Square run at one resort may be designated as a Black Diamond at another resort. It is possible, and probable at some resorts, that ungroomed or Black Diamond bumped runs may be included in this event. In addition, trail difficulty may vary due to snow conditions improving or deteriorating throughout the day. The course conductor will determine if the local trail designations and conditions are appropriate for the ability of the group and will choose terrain appropriate for the event.
In addition, resorts make every effort to have bump runs available for our events; however, there are times when conditions make skiing bumps impossible. In this case the course conductor will make every effort to develop bump skiing skills on other terrain.
Prerequisites: Minimum Level 1 Certification
Course Description:
This course will help the participants to develop the basic skills and tactics necessary to link turns in bumps on blue terrain. The Moguls 100 course assumes no previous experience skiing moguls. Some of the skiing and activities during this course will be performed on groomed terrain; however,
part of the experience of the course will be skiing in the bumps. Proficiency in short turns will significantly benefit the participant's experience in this clinic.
Learning Experiences:
Specific activities will vary depending on the group and environmental conditions; however, they will typically include:
• Introducing the anatomy of a bump run and route (line) options.
• Performing consistent, quick, short turns in groomed terrain.
• Practicing activities to improve flexing and extending skills.
• Refining the ability to turn legs more than the upper body.
• Introducing preferred body posture and pole usage in bumps.
• Exploring activities on groomed and bumped terrain with more skidding and less carving.
• Practicing bump skiing skills in different bump fields, different lines, turn shapes and speeds.
• Understanding, through activities and feedback, personal ski performance in the bumps and activities to practice after the clinic.
