Biggest Academy Ever Celebrates ONEteam Message at Big Sky

PSIA-AASI National Academy 2022 welcomed 460 coaches and attendees to Big Sky, Montana, last week, for the association’s largest event ever. Instructors from every discipline enjoyed learning riding and teaching skills to take into next season.

“This marked the first time we had the entire PSIA-AASI National Team at academy,” said Director of Education Dave Schuiling. “The event says a lot about how we’re not just speaking as ONEteam, but living and modeling it while capitalizing on the incredible energy and output from the five disciplines spending time together.”

Team Coach Jeb Boyd shared attendees received personalized training throughout the week to help them improve their skills.

“This event felt like the best academy ever,” said Jeb. “Participants appreciated the time the team spent training to give them the maximum benefit from their time together.”

The event featured top notch lift and lodging facilities, nightly events celebrating the contributions of members, fantastic snow conditions, the latest new equipment to demo from Official Suppliers, and a chance to connect with old and new friends from across the country.

“We were excited to give everyone in our group the chance to work and ride with any team member and every member,” said AASI Snowboard Team Coach Eric Rolls. “We organized every morning by ‘heat level’ indicating what kind of terrain you wanted to ride, from mild to extra spicy. In the afternoon participants selected elective by topic, such as high-end carving, Euro carving, or freestyle fiesta.”

Snowboard participants also had the opportunity to exercise their minds more than their body, or “terrain the brain,” said Eric, by breaking down fundamentals or providing feedback to a presentation he is honing for Interski next spring in Levi, Finland.

National Academy, Rider Rally, Adaptive Academy, and Telemark Academy will return to Big Sky in April 2023, right after Interski. Attend National Academy 2023 to learn what the team presented at Interski and hear about what they learned from other instructors. Remember to mark your calendar!
